"Listening to a Symphony Orchestra‚watching and learning are gifts we can give our children that last a lifetime."
Rosemary Thomson, Music Director and Conductor, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra

The Okanagan Symphony is pleased to present "Music that Dances" for its 2009 Education Concerts.

People love to dance, especially when the music is rhythmic and joyful. Join the OSO as we explore wonderful music to which to dance. From the stylized European dances of the 18th and 19th centuries, to the folk dances of North America, together we will discover the music that has kept toes tapping for centuries.

The program includes the following repertoire:
Tchaikovsky, Polonaise from Eugene Onegin
Mozart, Minuet from Symphony No.35
J. Strauss, Thunder and Lightning Polka
Gayfer, Holiday Waltz
Anderson, Blue Tango
Trad., Mexican Hat Dance
arr. Macmillan, Three Jigs
Copland, Hoedown

Music Director, Rosemary Thomson will conduct and host this concert series. In an interactive setting, she will invite students into the world of orchestral music. By breaking the music down into its basic elements, she provides the students with a way into the textural complexities that make up orchestral music. This active listening creates the opportunity for a transforming artistic experience for all students. This program is geared for students from 5 to 9 years of age, but is a program that will be enjoyed by the "young at heart" and music lovers as well.
